Although it may seem complicated, here at Decanto Community, we’re going to share some tips to make learning multiple languages easier than ever.

We live in a world where languages are essential for communicating, working, travelling… In this globalised world, is it really possible to learn several languages at once? We promise you, it is!

Is it possible to learn several languages at the same time?

The answer is a resounding YES  but we must be honest, it’s not easy.

Intellectually speaking, we are capable of learning multiple languages simultaneously if we follow certain guidelines and useful tips. However, it does require more effort and, most likely, the learning process will be slower.

How to learn multiple languages at the same time

The most important thing when learning several languages at once is consistency. Dedicating time to your language learning every day is key to reaching your goals.

Here are some essential tips to help you study several languages at once:

Choose a primary language

Focusing on one language you already have a better command of will make it much easier to learn additional languages. For example, when it comes to Spanish and Italian, it’s often easier to learn one or the other if your base language is one of them. Their similarities, shared roots and the fact that both are Romance languages make the process smoother. In this article, we also share extra advice for learning these two languages.

Be persistent

As we’ve already mentioned, consistency is fundamental to achieving your goals. If you speak, study, and practise your target languages every day with friends, family, or teachers, you’ll find it much easier than you imagine.

Set goals

Decide how far you want to go, set realistic objectives, and stay motivated as you work towards them. Marking deadlines in your calendar is a great way to stay focused when your motivation drops.

Use learning tools

If you have access to books, courses, films, podcasts, games or any other resources in the languages you want to learn — use them! It’s an excellent way to familiarise yourself with the language and pick up different contexts in a more dynamic and enjoyable way.

Learn to ask questions and useful phrases

It may seem simple, but learning basic questions, typical phrases, and starting conversations in the languages you’re learning is incredibly helpful for improving comprehension. Don’t try to tackle complex grammar straight away. Take your time and gradually build up your communication skills.

Travel and have fun

Visiting countries and cities where these languages are spoken is by far the best and fastest way to learn. Talking to locals, discovering the culture, and engaging in real conversations… without a doubt, it’s a fun and highly effective way to learn several languages at the same time.

At Decanto Community, we’ll always encourage you to achieve whatever you set your mind to. With a bit of effort and dedication, you can learn several languages at the same time!
